APSE OF FONDARELLA'S CHURCH
TECHNIQUE: Fresco mural painting
YEAR: 2014
BUILDING: Santa Maria's Church
TOWN/REGION: Fondarella (Catalonia)
DIMENSIONS: 86.1 m2
The image of Mary chairs the apse and is placed on the representation of the Pla d'Urgell. The village of Fondarella is under her feet and on the horizon we can see the silhouette of the Pyrenees. A sky of golden tones is crowned by the twelve stars, and light and color accompany the image of Mary by referring to the quote from Revelation:
"A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.”
The initial arc of the apse houses scenes from the life of Mary on one side: Annunciation, Nativity, Mercy, Resurrection, Pentecost and Assumption.
On the other side, scenes from the life of Saint Sebastian: abandonment of military life, martyred with bolts, Irene and death.
